Kleinur (along with skyr) are the most popular and easy-to-like Icelandic foods. It helps that you can dip kleinur into skyr; in fact you can dip them into tea or coffee and the combinations still works. They're stiff little knotted pastries, not quite doughnuts but not far off. They are flavoured with just a hint of cardamom which gives them their distinct but subtle taste. They're not too big and they're not too sweet, which makes them very moreish. Don't come to Iceland without buying a little bag of them.
