RECORD WINDS IN THE SOUTH

Veðurstofa Íslands reported unprecedented wind speeds in southern Iceland last night. According to the main Icelandic daily newspaper Morgunblaðið, there was an average wind speed of 74 mph at Steinar, just west of the village of Skógar. This is a hurricane force wind. The highest gust was 152 mph, the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane or an F2 tornado.
