We never recommend that tourists go to Reynisfjara, the iconic black sand beach in Iceland. It is just too dangerous. Other tour companies don't seem to get it. Here is a shocking recent video of an English school group getting overwhelmed by the waves (see photo). It is a miracle that nobody died. An American tourist died in 2007. Three tourists were swept away in August 2015 but were miraculously saved by the coastguard. A Chinese tourist drowned in February 2016 and a German tourist drowned in January 2017. Another tourist died in May 2018 after falling at the beach. This alarming video, not filmed in Iceland, shows how easily beach drownings can happen. We implore you: don't go to Reynisfjara.
